At Sweet Pea’s Nursery and Garden Center we are committed to finding the highest quality plant material available. We buy our stock from Montana sources as often as possible. What we can’t find from Montana we buy from climates that match ours in elevation, soil type, and temperature. This allows us to confidently sell you a plant that is suited to your site. Our knowledgable sales staff will work with you to make sure that you are getting just the plant you need. For added assurance all our plant material comes with a one year warranty.
Need an instant burst of color? Annuals are the way to go! Annuals differ from perennials in that they bloom for the entire summer. No need to worry about what to fill in with next when your favorite perennial is done blooming.
Sweet Pea’s Nursery grows the majority of their own annuals so that they can provide the customer with a wide variety of color, texture and size. Need help in choosing the right annual? Our sales staff are the growers so they are well qualified to make sure you go home with just the right plant.
We all love to eat! Anyone that has tasted a tomato fresh off the vine knows that it doesn’t even compare to the store bought ones. Sweet Pea grows most of our own vegetables so that we can experiment with new varieties in order to provide the customer with the latest and greatest in vegetables. Just about all of our employees grow their own vegetable garden, including a small one at the nursery, so you know you’re getting sound advice.

Herbs are a great addition to the garden. They can be grown for ornamental or culinary use. Here in Montana there are many herbs that will come back year after year, such as sage, thyme and tarragon. Alongside our desire to try new plants, is our desire to try new recipes. Stop in and ask one of our sales staff for their favorite way to cook with herbs.
Sweet Pea’s Nursery carries fruit trees of all kinds. Our apple trees are proven hardy for our area, as are the cherries, plums, and pears. For the more adventurous gardener we have apricot trees that, if the weather is right, will produce fruit!
We also carry more than enough fruit to get your 5 daily servings worth! Raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, grapes, rhubarb, and currants all grow here with limited effort. Blueberries may take a little extra effort but are worth it. Be sure to buy these in the spring because that is the only time they are available.

Bulbs can be planted in the fall for spring blooms, or in the spring for summer blooms. We offer a wide selection of bulbs to plant in the spring. Plate sized dahlias, fragrant Star Gazer lily, and gladiolas in a rainbow of color are just a few.
For fall blooming we have a great selection of tulips, daffodils and crocus. Every year we bring in a fun new bulb for us and our customers alike to try.
Perennials are our passion! At Sweet Pea’s Nursery you will find the widest variety of perennials available in the valley. We make it our goal to provide the customer with the hottest trends and yet to be discovered varieties. We are experts in combining perennials so that your garden will have blooms all year long. Come ask us how we can ensure you have something blooming at all times.
All the rage these days are the use of ornamental grasses. New varieties are being introduced yearly, and good news for Northern gardeners, they are well suited for our climate! Grasses are a great addition to the perennials garden and continue the interest through the long winter months by providing graceful stalks that sway in the wind. Come in and see what new varieties the plant breeders are growing now.
Groundcovers can be used in sun or shade and can be a great way to get that layered look in your garden. A garden does not exist that could not benefit from some groundcovers. There are groundcovers that are well suited to walk on, making them a great alternative to a lawn. Our knowledgeable staff can guide you to the right groundcover for you.
At Sweet Pea’s Nursery and Garden Center we strive to find the highest quality trees and shrubs in the industry. In order to fulfill this mission, we buy from many different wholesalers around the Northwest including Montana, Idaho, Oregon, California, as well as Minnesota. We offer prices and sizes to fit any budget from small potted specimens to large balled and burlaped trees AND shrubs.
Our valued employees are helpful and courteous with several Montana Nursery & Landscape Associations (MNLA) Certified Plant Professionals on staff. We will be with you every step of the way; from helping to select, load and transport your plants, to providing after-care instructions and all the materials necessary to ensure your investment establishes and thrives. All of our plants are guaranteed for one full year after purchase.
More than half the shrubs we sell have been grown in Montana so you know they are hardy. Sweet Pea’s Nursery is one of the few places you will find shrubs balled and burlaped. Having this option provides the customer with the ability to install a landscape that looks like it has been there for years.
More and more these days customers are asking for native plants to use in their garden. And we are listening! We carry a wide selection of native plants that work well in the home landscape, take less water, and will set your yard apart from the norm. Stop in and see how your yard can be “spruced” up with some natives.
We have a walk in bare root cooler so you can pick out your own bare root plants. You can choose from everything that is available in a container; trees, shrubs, and fruits. The advantage of bare root material is that the plant is still dormant and does not need to be grown in a pot of soil. Eliminating this extra labor and material, bare root is cheaper and easier to handle. But because they are still dormant they can only be planted in the spring so come in during the months of April and May and save big bucks on bare root. Don’t worry either, our bare root has the same warranty as our potted material and still comes with the same expert advice to ensure your success.
