Sweet Pea's History
With a passion for plants and landscape design, Sweet Pea Landscaping was founded by Elissa Metcalf in 1997,
the name paying tribute to her childhood nickname. In 2000 Elissa married Ben Zavora, taking his name and
taking the business to a newfound success that was deeply rooted in their dedication to the industry and
treating people, employees and customer alike, with a respect that earned their trust.
Ben & Elissa Zavora
In this photo Ben and Elissa proudly display their 2006 Small Business of the Year award which was given to them by the Gallatin
Development Corp. (now called Prospera).
In the first few years it was Elissa and several employees, working out of a salvaged truck and her basement
apartment as the office. When Ben joined forces, every year brought a new aspect that has contributed to building
the business to what it is today. From purchasing equipment and land to work from, to hiring qualified employees
and developing new divisions in the company, it has been the dedication and hard work of everyone involved that
has allowed the company to grow to 60 employees and earn the reputation that it holds today.
With Ben having a knack at running the landscape side of the company and Elissa’s unwavering passion for plants,
she directed her energy to opening a retail garden center in 2006. With the nursery still growing, it is developing
into a destination center complete with demonstration gardens, rooftop garden, and a plan for a coffee shop and
garden related book store in the near future.
